Feedback on the double page spread

I had some feedback so that I could start to make some improvements.

I created a red background but people said that it clashed with all of the other things in the screen. they also said that i had not made maximum uise of the space and that the boxes were separted so that the pages had too much white spavce for a teengae magazine.

Changes to the Contents

Changes I made to the Contents pge.

I wanted the contents page to be different than other magazines. I started putting images onto the contents page, but found halfway through that the contents page looked more like my front cover. I thought about a simple approach to this page so that people can easily find the page that they are looking for.

feedback for the contents page.

I had the contents page reviewed by a few people in the class they said that it was two basic and the webpage looked like I had ran out of ideas. They said that i had the correct amount of informnation but they thought the layout was not used to maximum potential. Also they said that I needed to make thye image bigger and they said that the image used was not as good as some of the others that I had taken.

Magazine been reviewed by people

I have had my magazine reviewed by a few people in the class. I have been told that I need to take pictures of people not in uniform, as the uniform will alter the validity and realism of the magazine. I have been told that some of the colours are too bright and you sometimes cannot read the writing. So I will need to add some variety in strengths of colours. I have also been informed that the spelling of some of the words is wrong, this is important to change especially for the teenage audience. I think that the background could be altered to still make the magazine colourful, but still being able to read the writing. I will change the magazine according to the comments that I have received to make it more user friendly

Representation

Representation means how do I represent people in the magazine like social groups and what does the magazine represent.

My magazine represents the teenage generations and all of the young ladies that will buy there magazine. It represents a medium to low social class. This is done through the low price and through the gossip type stories that are included in the magazine. If the magazine was for a higher class then they would have stories related more to the music than the artists and what they get up to. I have represented the younger generations through the bright colours that will represent the young energetic generations that are around today. The colours are bright and varied which I have used to represent younger people as they are young and fresh, vibrant. This will also attract people to buy the magazine as it is what the younger generations like. Also i have made the magazine have a lower price than some of the music magazines on the market. this will means that people from lower class can buy the magazine as I have made the magazine come from a trashy, gossip kind of point of view. This will also represent them as gossip is unprofessional and can be seen as immature,. however, this will represent the target audience.

Results for the Questionaire

I had a few people to complete my questionaire and after a numanamous vote Rave was chosen as the magazine name. people said that they liked the name becuase it was original and they thought that it fitted with modern day teenagers and is original.

I interviwed 20 people and 12 saying rave was the name for them. other names that proved next best were Groove and Sound. They said that I was good that it was original and related to the genre of the magazine.

I then did the questionaire and put it on my blog. the post in the next post displays the results of that. they are similar to the ones from the interview.

Brainstormed names for my Music Magazine

Poppin- this name could suggest that the audience of this name would be quite young because of the shortened name. it could also remind you of a beat that you could jump to but it most importantly has the genre name in the title. This will give a clear indication to the audience about what the magazine is all about.

Sound- sound could be taken in two ways. It could be taken as the slang for really good or it could be taken as listening to a sound. This is good as it still will attract younger audience but does not display to the audience hat genre the magazine is about. Sound could also suggest loud, vibrant and harmony. I think that these words associated to sound however, do describe pop very well

Sing it- sing it instantly tells the audience that the magazine is about music and singing. It also encourages the younger audiences to join in and have some fun with the magazine. Sing is a verb, which could suggest that anyone can sing, which could further suggest that the magazine is encouraging teenagers to sing.

Pop girl- Pop girl could suggest that the magazine is about pop as the genre is in the title, but it could also suggest a gossip magazine as it sounds very girly. It defines the audience straight away with having girl in the title. Pop suggests that the magazine could be read very quickly and easily as the word pop is short and snappy. It is also straight to the point so that gives the indication that the magazine would be pure musical gossip.

Rave- rave gives the impression of jumpy beating club type music. This is good as it hints to the genre of the magazine. Rave could also suggest enthusiasm which could suggest that the magazine is passionate about pop and that the readers are also enthusiastic about pop themselves. This is good as the readers would be attracted to the word rave due to its occurrence in every day language.

Party on- party on could suggest that the magazine celebrates the genre of pop but could also suggest that the music is a gathering of all of the stars of the pop world in one magazine. This is good as the name will clearly state the content of the magazine and readers will know what they are getting.

Groove- groove could suggest dancing and good music. This is good as it will let the audience know hat the magazine is about and hat the genre of the magazine in as most people associate pop with groovy music. It could also suggest he the music will be chic, funky and cool.

Groovy Girl- this name clearly states that the content of the magazine is for a girl but it will also suggest that the music is cool, hip groovy and chic. This reminds me of funky vibrant stand out colours which I feel describes pop very well.

Teens on Tour- this suggests that the magazine will be on music. This is good as it will meet the aims of the music magazine. It also states the audience of the magazine, which is good s the audience, know the magazine is for them.  Teens suggests that the magazine will be informal and using the everyday language of the modern teenager. On tour could suggest that the artist could be releasing exclusive tour dates in the magazine but also could suggest some contents of the magazine.

Jumpin- Jumpin  could suggest that the magazine has a lot of content, which could suggest to the audience that there is a lot for the price of the magazine. This is good as the magazine is then competing with other teen magazines. It could also suggest dancing and partying. This could suggest that the magazine could be lively and celebrating the featured artists.

Planning the front cover image

Planning the front cover image

Magazine Name

Rave
Models

Alisha, Laura and Marie
Camera height/angle/distance

I have decided that I would like to have the camera reasonably close to the model. This is to follow the convention of ‘typical’ magazines. Also gives the model and the look of the magazine a sense of importance. I am going to keep the camera at the normal angle, so the horizon is level. This will allow me really focus on the Model and not so much on the angle of the picture, but of them.
Location

The location of the photo shoot will not matter too much. I would like one of the images to have a naturalistic background, to add some reality to the magazine. Other than that, I want to take my images in front of a plain, preferably white background. This will allow me to edit out the background, to give the magazine a professional photo-shoot look.
Lighting

I would like the lighting in the photo-shoot to be quite bright. I think that would make the images look better with the magazine look good with the bright colours of the magazine.
Mise-en-scene (incl. props, costume)

I will not use any props in the production of the images. I have decided to do this to place the main focus of the models and not just the props that they carrying.  Also I would like the models to be wearing fashion items, that will be relevant to their ages, as I don’t want the magazine to display negative images to the target audience.
Attempted connotation

I wanted the model to look happier than some of the other magazines. I wanted the models to look like normal children, fit and healthy and I wanted the models to represent of all ages in the target audience and to be good role models at the same time.
Planned denotation

I wanted the models to display appropriate clothing, and for the images to look bright and look good on the magazine. I used a flat angle, to give the impression of reality.
Contingency (in case of model absence/weather)

I will have a contingency plan, by asking more than the models I have put at the top of the page as I though then I would have models, for if they were ill or unable to attend.  I have no issues with the weather as the images will be taken inside, and I will be taking them in October, so snow should not be an issue.
Thinking points:  I have yet still to think about the makeup usage on the models, however, I may not use much makeup to make the models look natural and good, so they are not going to be heavily altered and photo shopped like they probably would be on competing magazines.

Comments:
I have decided that I will take a few images of the models, a lot more than I will use. I think that this would be the best way as then I can fit the images to the pages and not the pages to the images as this may look a little rubbish.

Shot Plans

I have decided that I want the images on my front cover to be of leading artists in the modern world of music. I wanted the main image to be a medium long shot of the artist and I wanted them to be striking a funky pose. This way I can attract the younger audiences and the older one of my magazine target audience.  I also feel that this would be the best way to attract the audience but also to make the magazine informal and look cool for the audience to be seen read.  I would also like some images on the front cover of other artists, as I feel like this would be the most effective. I would like to have on their more medium long shots and maybe even a two shot to demonstrate a group.

On the contents page I would like to have a close up image of an artist, just to keep the magazine alive and to make it look inviting and aesthetic. I think that by having a small image it will break away the text and by it being a close up, there will be nothing else to focus on and just the artist in question.

On the double page spread I would like to have around 3 images of the artist. I would like to have medium longs shots again, but for them to be layered so that the images covers the whole of the page. This would make the pictures look better more aesthetic and to make it look more like a professional article. I may also adjust the photos to make them more funky and appealing to the audience.

Evaluation Of My School Magazine

The audience for my school magazine was A, B, C1, C2, D and E. I think that I have catered for the audience. The primary audience was the students of the school and the secondary audience of the school is the parents and all of the stake holders in the school. I think that I have catered for the audience as I have included images of the school pupils and all of the pages in the school magazine are related directly to the pupils but the other audiences of the school magazine will be able to enjoy them as well.

The masthead of the school magazine is bold and is coloured in red, orange and yellow. The connotation of this is that it is a bold masthead that stands out from the background. The denotation of the masthead is that it is bold. This means that the school is bold and that students are not afraid to stand out form the crowd and that they are not afraid to be bold. The colour of the masthead could imply that the students are fired up about school and that the school is hot on expectations and what they expect the students to achieve.  This also refers to the title of High Expectations.  However I feel that the font on the mast head could have been a little better as the font may be hard for some people to read. Next time I will use a more defined font so that more of the primary and secondary audience will be able to read the font properly.

I have had to take out all of the backgrounds form the images that I had decided to use in the magazine. I took the images in a busy environment and decided to cut them out of the background to make them stand out more easily. I think that the magazine would have looked a little more realistic and better if I had taken some of the images in a less busy background and kept some of the backgrounds. I feel that the audience may have been able to connect with the pupils that are on the front cover as they will know the surroundings on the front cover. It also may have been a bit more exciting if the front cover and the contents page had had a real background.

I think that the semiotics of the front of my school magazine is positive. The girl at the bottom of the page is looking up and the denotation of the picture is that she is gazing in to the future. This could imply that the school are giving her the options that she needs to do well; also she could be looking up to the title of the magazine. This could suggest that she is happy with the high expectations of the school. The bigger picture of another girl smiling could suggest that she is very happy with the school and that she is keen and eager to work and do well. This is good as demonstrates that the schools pupils like that the school has high expectations. However to make this image better, I could have smartened up their uniforms slightly. This would have meant that they are demonstrating the high standards of the school but from the images they look a little bit scruffy.

I have had to make a few decisions in the making of my front cover and contents page. I decided that on my contents page that I would not have images of the pupils. I did this as I wanted the pages to stand out and not the pupils that surrounding the pages of the magazine. However, if I did the magazine again then I would have images of the school surrounding the page as the crayons looked a little bit babyish.  Little images would make the magazine look more professional and exciting to the audience. I have taken the purple out of the colour scheme as I thought it was to girlish to be put on a unisex magazine.  Over all I think that the magazine was a success, it met the target audience however, with the improvements it would be even better than before.

thi is my school magazine so far...

Front cover images revisit

Changes

Due to the magazine orientation and the images that i had previously taken, i hvae had to take more photos and choose one to be my main image. I chose some shots of my freinds and i had the intention to cut out the backgrounds. this is so that the image will be the main focal point.

Images I have taken for my front cover

Well this week I have taken some of the images that I will use for my magazine. I origanaly thought that I would not have to do alot of editing, but i will have to do some serious croppping and a little adjusting with the picture, combining two images to create on image. This is beacuse the shot needs to be a medium close up, but to get all of the images that perfect image combining two images is my only option. Theese are the images that I have taken.
