Semotics of Brainstomed Names

 

 

Semiotics is the tern used to describe the look and effect of a media product, in my case magazine covers. Denotation is the precise meaning behind the magazine name, however the connotation is the meaning behind the name, or what the name would suggest. These are the names in which I have brainstormed for my school magazine. I have examined the connotations for each of the names.

Kool Skool- Kool School this magazine name could be used to explain how cool your school could be. It could also be informal and cheesy; however allowing students to learn still.  

Cleaver Cloggs- This name could be used to describe the student to make them feel important. The magazine could be about getting the most out of your education and ways to have fun and learn.

Fun timez- This could be a magazine about the fun bits about school. Like the extra school activities and different things that are fun around school.

Classroom Classics- this magazine could be about classic problems that students have in the class room and what they can do about it. It could also suggest a formal magazine and bland magazine.

 

Skools out- this could suggest a very laid back magazine and a very interesting for pupils magazine. Being an informal magazine it could include quizzes and fun things to do.

Sckool stress- this could suggest the magazine talks about issues relating to stress and anger, or fear. It could mean that the magazine tackles serious issues that will help students to learn grow and develop.

Chillax- this magazine title could suggest that the magazine is low work load, and is something fun to do just to wind down. It could be filled with little quizzes and questioaires and games, to help students learn things easily.

Lookin brighter-this name could suggest that the students get more cleaver as they read the magazine, but also could talk about serious issues that are taken in a light hearted way, to help students and parents to understand them.

High expectations- this magazine could be about all the serious issues that the school expect them to do and what they want the students to achieve. It could also be about how to reach the expectations for struggling students.  

 

Gradez- this could be about different courses and how what to achieve and how to achieve grading criteria. It could be put into a fun format so that the students understand and have other pieces of advice linking to grades.

 

Optionz- this magazine could be about choices that students have. What subjects to take at GCSE or whether or not you are doing the right courses for you. It could also talk about the different choices students have outside of school. Like whether gangs are a good idea etc.
