The audience of my new school magazine

The primary audience of my new school magazine is children between the ages of 12 and 16. They are in full time education and therefore will want the school magazine to be exciting and to deliver the appropriate information about the school and what is going on. The secondary audience of the magazine will be parents and staff, so generally the most important article will be formally written so that it can be understood by all audiences, whether it is primary or secondary. Most of the students are will be from semi rural to rural areas which will influence some of the articles included in the magazine. Most students will also come from working class families and will be in the groups C1, C2, D and E. Therefore any adverts in the magazine need to feature items that would be available to each family. E.G- Not too expensive so that parents are faced with financial difficulties.

The magazine will have casual language occasionally formal to engage with the audience so that they get the message and be interested at the same time. The type of language used in the articles will reflect the nature of the article and the importance of the articles. The pages will be bright and engaging to the audience but then will also have lots of picture to back up the text used. This will mean that the students will read the article and not be put off by steams of writing. This will also not clutter the magazine and it must be dyslexia friendly.

The contents of the magazine will include revision notes as students of this age will be completing their GCSE’s. It will also be important to include information on careers and post 16 choices that students will have to make. There could also be short quizzes that will increase learning without the pupils noticing. It will also include extra curricular activities, ways in which to increase learning capability, events and activities in the local areas and appraisals. This will encourage the students and notify the parents what is going on in the school and if their pupils are doing well in class or extra curricular activities.
